Actress Elisha Cuthbert and the new ABC show “Happy Endings” apparently scored big on the opening night of the new series. The brand new show had over 7 million viewers tuning in, which is certainly great news for all involved!
Website OnTheRedCarpet.com reports that approximately 7.27 million watched the debut episode and then 5.72 million watched the episode which followed right after on Wednesday. In terms of ratings, the first episode scored a 2.7 rating among the 18 to 49-year-old demographic, while the followup scored a 2.3 rating.
This could be a big career boost for Elisha Cuthbert. She’s well known for her sexy role in the film “The Girl Next Door” in 2004, as well as playing the daughter of Jack Bauer on “24.” Some may even remember her minor role as the dean’s daughter in the classic comedy “Old School.”
Cuthbert has been in some less popular films including “House of Wax” but she continues to be one of the hottest actresses in Hollywood. This recent buzz certainly can’t hurt, but the writers and cast will need to continue to keep audiences glued to their TV sets. With the early indications of this show in terms of ratings and viewers, it could be a happy beginning for “Happy Endings.”

Elisha Cuthbert was a little nervous before starting work on her new ABC series Happy Endings.
“I had some anxiety because most of my work on television had been with 24, and I was used to that element,” the former Calgarian says. “Once I got on the set, I felt like this was a good place for me. I felt comfortable.”
Happy Endings is a modern romantic comedy that looks at what happens to six close friends when Cuthbert’s character calls off a wedding to another member of their group. This totally disrupts the friendship dynamic.
The series also stars Eliza Coupe, Zachary Knighton, Adam Pally, Damon Wayans Jr. and Casey Wilson.
Cuthbert, who mostly has worked on TV dramas, was willing to take the plunge into TV comedy because she liked the flawed character so much. It was a chance to play someone who wasn’t perfect, who didn’t have all the answers.
She describes her role as an “honest take on a girl in her late 20s-early 30s going through life at that time.”
Cuthbert been working since she was seven — most notably as Kim Bauer on several seasons of 24. Nothing that happens with Happy Endings can be as testing as her days on 24.
The writers didn’t quite know what to do with her character after the first season and often created storylines that took idiotic turns. Kim was kidnapped five times, came face-to-face with a mountain lion and was wooed by a weird survivalist.
Cuthbert never said a word.
“I didn’t complain about it because I thought this is where they see the character going. I kind of went with it and tried to think of the best way to play the scene,” Cuthbert says.
Because she wasn’t in every episode, she had time to pursue other work. She made mainstream films like Love Actually and The Girl Next Door.
It’s all been part of what Cuthbert calls “a weird career path.” If Happy Endings is a hit, Cuthbert won’t have much time to make movies. She’s OK with that.
“I look forward to doing more movies in the future. But TV’s such a great place to be, especially now. I can reach an audience that’s much bigger with television than going off to do these independent films.”

ELISHA Cuthbert says he’s more like her Happy Endings character Alex than any other character she has played.
In the show, Alex leaves her fiance at the altar on their wedding day.
“Maybe it’s because I was always afraid to be myself. I always thought the hard part about acting was creating another character, being someone you’re not,” Cuthbert says.
“Alex is the heart of me. I’m a regular Canadian girl. I enjoy staying home. In the summer I’ve got a garden. I’m very much a homebody, a normal, family-oriented girl. But I do have this other incredible side of my life that involves acting and traveling.
“We’ve been getting a lot of comparisons to Friends.
“Of course we have some correlations. There’s a part of Friends in every half-hour comedy.
“Our show is about love. Love between a group of friends, love that doesn’t necessarily always work out, the search for love.”
Elisha recently admitted she had “some anxiety” before starting work on Happy Endings.
“I had some anxiety because most of my work on television had been with ‘24,’ and I was used to that element,” Cuthbert says. “Once I got on the set, I felt like this was a good place for me. I felt comfortable.”
