Elisha Cuthbert “absorbed everything” she could from working with Kiefer Sutherland.

The 29-year-old star appeared in the first three seasons of ’24′ alongside Kiefer when she was still a teenager, and took in as much as possible from the seasoned Hollywood star.

She said: “I absorbed everything I could from Kiefer, especially as far as work ethic is concerned. On ’24′ he was a lot older than me and in a different place in his life. I was still a kid, so I wasn’t going to start hanging out with him, I just worked with him.”

Although she finished filming the show some years ago, Elisha still gets recognized in the most unlikely places because of the globally successful series.

She added to The Sunday Times newspaper: “It’s strange being famous in places like Slovakia. This woman came up to me in a shopping centre in Bratislava and told me how much she loved ’24′. I was completely taken aback, it was so weird.

“Another time I was zip-lining in Mexico and a woman came up to me and recognized me – It was a forest in the middle of nowhere. But it happens when you’re on a show that’s so big.”

ELISHA Cuthbert is hoping to get her old 24 leading man to join her for one of her Happy Endings.

The 29-year-old beauty wants Kiefer Sutherland to play her father on hit comedy Happy Endings and it looks like she might just get her way.

“I think it would be really cool to have Kiefer come on and play my dad,” says Elisha.

“We’re not necessarily close to doing it, but I think it would be good timing for season three.

“We don’t want him to feel like we want him on the show to make fun of him, or have it be awkward or weird. I think he would be a great fit, and I think a lot of people would like to see it. I know I would. It’s just a matter of working it out. It was actually his idea to do it.”

Elisha Cuthbert may have learned a lot about science when she starred on “Popular Mechanics for Kids,” but these days, it’s the mechanics of her digestive system that she seems to be focusing on.

Appearing on “Conan” Tuesday night, the sultry “Happy Endings” star put in a very unsexy performance while imitating messy eaters and, uh, “clean vomiters.”

The 29-year-old Canadian actress, who splits her time between Toronto and Los Angeles, started off with a story about how she distracts herself from her fear of flying by looking at “awkward” people.

“I was sitting next to a woman who was actually eating pudding without a spoon and refused to have a spoon and was slurping it out of the cup,” Cuthbert said, before imitating the slurping sound, not once, but thrice — with two of those times done “erotically” for O’Brien’s benefit.

Though she claimed she “wasn’t getting grossed out by it”, Cuthbert did manage to gross the audience soon after with her tales of regurgitation.

Cuthbert, who dates T0ronto Maple Leafs defenceman Dion Phaneuf, revealed to O’Brien that her boyfriend was recently hit in the face by a puck. Though doctors told her not to “freak him out,” Cuthbert nearly lost her lunch over the incident.

“I screamed because he had a big bag of ice and blood coming out of his mouth,” she explained. Cuthbert claimed she told Phaneuf he looked “great” and then mimed the heaving response she really had, which O’Brien referred to as a “duck call.”

But she isn’t the only one in her family who has perfected the “duck call.” Cuthbert also regaled the audience with an anecdote about her mother throwing up after her first attempt at hot yoga.

“Elisha, you would be very proud of me, I’m very talented,” Cuthbert’s mother told her. “I can throw up and drive at the same time.”

As if that weren’t enough, Cuthbert then reenacted the scene for about a minute, as CoCo stared at the audience.

But it wasn’t all about regurgitation. Cuthbert also revealed her talent for imitation, which sometimes makes it on to her ABC show. She performed her best impressions of Renee Zellweger (which basically just involved squinting her eyes) and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres.

The People’s Choice nominees were announced Nov. 8 in Beverly Hills.

Katy Perry, Glee, and Harry Potter led the pack with the most nominations, but Beyonce managed to snag five as well. The movie The Help also shined with three nominations.

Julianne Hough, Joe Jonas, Jennifer Morrison, Sharon Osbourne and Busy Philipps and Elisha Cuthbert had the honor of dolling out the nominations which included the movie Bridesmaids, actor Morgan Freemen, and television show Modern Family.

If judged by its debut, the ABC sitcom Happy Endings should probably have been called Inauspicious Beginnings.

The show, with little promotion behind it, premiered in April, when the traditional broadcast-network season was running out of steam.

It marked the latest entry in a yearlong parade of ensemble comedies with characters navigating the travails of young adulthood in hip urban neighborhoods: CBS had Mad Love. Fox had Traffic Light. NBC had Perfect Couples along with Love Bites and Friends With Benefits on deck.

Every network was after the Ross-and-Rachel magic.

Six months later, Happy Endings is the sole survivor.

“No, is that true?” Elisha Cuthbert, one of the co-stars, said by phone. “Are they really all gone?”

They are.

Only Happy Endings, with its sextet of 30-ish Chicagoans, received a second season.

What it still doesn’t have, cast member Adam Pally noted, is prime promotion from the network.

“I haven’t seen one commercial for us during Modern Family,” he said last month on the day before the second-season premiere, in the time slot after Modern Family.

Then again, he acknowledged: “It’s kind of nice to come in under the radar. I think it gives people a certain ownership of the show.”

At the outset, the deck seemed stacked against the cheery, slightly campy series — which arrived late to a party full of rivals.

ABC also decided to air episodes out of order because it didn’t consider the first and second installments funny enough.

In the pilot, the Cuthbert character dumped her fiance (Zachary Knighton) at the altar. ABC thought that, during the next two episodes, they and their pals — a married couple (Damon Wayans Jr. and Eliza Coupe) and two singles (Pally and Casey Wilson) — spent too much time coping with the breakup.

“The network wanted viewers to be able to find the show at any point and still enjoy it,” series creator David Caspe said. “They had 13 episodes sitting in front of them and the luxury of saying, ‘ Let’s lead with our funniest.’ But it was still a moment of huge trepidation for me.”

Despite the strategy, the show struggled in the ratings. In the second week, ABC changed the time slot — and viewership dropped from 7.2 million to about 4.5 million. And yet positive word-of-mouth started to spread.

Some critics even came around. At Aoltv.com, Maureen Ryan revisited the show late in the first season and wrote, “I’m happy to say that Endings improved in a number of key ways.”

For starters, the dialogue is honed to the sensibilities of the actors, who are all 28 to 32.

“The way we speak on camera is how we talk,” said Coupe, who plays the married perfectionist.

The actors are also dogged about perfecting their timing and sticking the punch lines.

“We all wanted to prove we had the comedy chops to pull this off,” Cuthbert said.

With the focus on laughs, it’s easy to forget that Endings studiously plays to the themes with which its audience will identify. They just prefer to cloak them in absurdity.

In the second-season premiere on Sept. 28, for instance, one character dealt with first-time homeownership issues, while race and sexuality loomed as obstacles to friendship in another plot strand.

Before she was discovered, Coupe worked as a bathroom attendant at the Heartland Brewery in Times Square (“a job I took only because I heard that the Saturday Night Live after-after-parties were there”).

Wilson kicked around St. Mark’s Place with her longtime writing partner, June Diane Raphael. The two will soon weave those experiences into an ABC pilot, Walk of Shame.

Pally taped pilot presentations. Knighton managed to get guest roles on Law & Order and Bones, while Wayans wrote for his father’s series, My Wife and Kids, as well as The Underground.

Cuthbert, on the other hand, signed on to 24 when she was 18 and spent the next nine years there (as Jack Bauer’s repeatedly imperiled daughter), then lusted after a comedy project that would turn her image on its head.

“In my heart,” she said, “I think the reason the show works is that they found people who were ready for it.”

“There was a little bit more pressure,” Cuthbert says of her status as the cast member with the shortest comedy resume. “I think everyone was like, ‘OK, is she just going to be the straight man of the group?’ That’s really not what I wanted. I wanted to come into a comedy and finally show that side of myself.”

Her funny side has involved a lot of physical comedy. From drunkenly devouring ribs to hipster dance breaks, Cuthbert’s Alex is decidedly not playing it straight. And in the season premiere we find her showing off one of her more impressive skills: wielding the invisible hula hoop.

“I’m trying to tone that down,” she says. “I’m sure everyone at home is sick of me doing the hula hoop.”

The hoop, which has now made non-appearances on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” at improv shows and in the series, actually started off-camera, goofing around with the rest of the cast.

“Shooting [at] night, you’re tired, you’re exhausted, you start to go a little Cuckoo crazy in the wee hours of the morning,” Cuthbert tells us. “Somehow the hula hoop came out, and where it came from… no one knows.”
